Sneak Into the Chez Bippy Speakeasy at MGM Grand

Key Points:

  • Chez Bippy's entrance is on the back wall of the pizza-by-the-slice dining area.

  • The room is elegant, with the illuminated wine rack behind the bar as the focal point.

  • My $23 Old Fashioned was spectacular, and the service exceptional.

Man, I love Las Vegas speakeasies, even though nothing is that "secretive" about them anymore.

Hell, Chez Bippy, the focus of this review, has a frickin' neon sign advertising its existence.

...But good luck finding the entrance if you don't know where to look :)...

Don't worry. I got you.

Chez Bippy Cocktails is hidden behind Luchini, a ritzy Italian restaurant at MGM Grand, which also has a more casual pizza-by-the-slice counter that starts at $8.99 per slice.

Humorously, my brother recently paid $12.95 for a food court slice at Bonanno's, steps away from this spot... I assume this would be a better option.

Anyway, enough about the za.

The entrance to Chez Bippy Cocktails is in the back of the pizza joint's dining area. There are 3 mock vending machines, and the red one on the right is a door.

You can just walk back, push it open, and waltz in. There's no password, puzzle, or other silliness to get in, which is kind of nice.

It's that red machine on the right. You can see the door handle on its left.

Like other speakeasies, the vibe once inside is completely different than where you came from.

In this case, it's elegant, with red accents & lamps, an illuminated wine rack behind the bar, and mirrors on the walls, which make the space feel roomier than it is.

As usual, I ordered an Old Fashioned, which was as good as it was photogenic.

Seriously though. This shot wails.

The rest of the drink menu isn't cheap, but you're paying for the setting.

Bottled beers cost $10-$12, depending on the variety; most cocktails run $20-$30, and there's an extensive bottle service list I can't afford.

Even though most speakeasies are common knowledge among Vegas regulars, there's still something special about ducking into a hidden cocktail lounge most people are oblivious to.

The double take a guy eating pizza in the dining area gave when someone exited the speakeasy through the red soda-machine door was pretty funny.

While my favorite Vegas speakeasies are The Ski Lodge at Cosmopolitan and the Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den at Resorts World, Chez Bippy could be a great pre- or post-dinner or show option while hanging at MGM Grand.

It's cool.
